Coding The Runway

Coding is viewed as a boys club. To change girls' perspectives, Google's Made with Code initiative partnered with fashion designer Zac Posen and developer Maddy Maxey to create the first LED dress of the New York Fashion Show.

By visiting our site, girls could code millions of unique patterns that would them come to life on the dress in real life. With no paid media, we got 240 million earned media impressions, but most importantly, we introduced approximately 800K girls to code.

The dress was part of Zac Posen’s Spring/Summer collection .

Patterns For The Dress.

By visiting MWC’s page, Girls could drag and drop code blocks to create the patterns that would hit the runway on September 8th.

The Dress Became Culture

The LED Dress garnered unanimous praise from the mainstream press, tech blogs, and teen media, with writeups in Mashable, Teen Vogue, and more. We got 240 million earned media impressions.

Even Lupita Nyong'o asked to wear the dress. She used it during her appearance on The Daily Show as well as the Star Wars premiere creating a huge conversation about the future of coding and fashion.
