Black Creativity Is Not a Monolith

Black creativity contains multitudes, and the work that it inspires represents a spectrum of backgrounds, disciplines, identities, and stories. To evoke that spectrum, Adobe collaborated with 72andSunny to create a platform to highlight multidisciplinary Black artists from across the globe.

When I see Black

Black artistry for very long has been oversimplified and generalized. Artists deserve control of their narrative. That’s why to launch this project we gave them the mic to, in their own words, describe their relationship with their art and identity.

In a multiple-stage process that included hour-long interviews with each artist, we crafted a story together to widens’s people’s views about Black Artistry.

Set The Stage

Black artists deserve a big stage to showcase their work. ComplexCon is one of the most iconic Arts and Fashion events in the country. For 2021 they brought that event to the web, building an entire digital city.

In partnership with them, we created a Museum inside ComplexLand. An interactive gallery where visitors could meet five up-and-coming multi-disciplinary artists from widely diverse backgrounds and disciplines.

The event had 9.5MM online visitors who got to meet amazing black artists for the first time.

In Partnership with Complex we also created a few editorials pieces that allowed each creator to share their perspective on Black creative expression.
